“Do something every day that you don’t want to do; this is the golden rule for acquiring the habit of doing your duty without pain.” -Mark Twain

We all have those things that we really don’t like to do, like chores around the house, going to work, or spending yet another Saturday at your kid’s friends birthday party. But what would your experience of those tedious tasks be like if you actually did them with the intention of doing something that you don’t want to do?

The fact that you don’t really want to do it, yet (kind of) have to do it, won’t change – but your mentality while doing it will change. I’m willing to bet that it won’t be so tedious anymore, and that you might actually find some golden nuggets while doing it. Maybe you’ll make a great networking connection at that (damn!) birthday party, or figure out that problem you’ve been hammering on for months at work that day.

When you let go of the weight of it, something amazing happens – it frees up space for other possibilities and opportunities. It also invites positive things into your life, rather than continuing the negative whirlwind that usually comes with it. Try it out the next time you are faced with something you don’t want to do. Then come back hear and tell us about it in the comments section.
