Here’s the short version of what you can expect from this site. I will write posts about all sorts of things regarding life and work. Some of the specific categories that you’ll see are: life, work, balance, meditation, diet(ing), exercise, social media, social networking, sales, business, leadership, personal development, and focus. I will often write posts about how I’m using the Kaizen philosophy in my life right now, in action, so that you can see the natural progression of how it works for me, and how it might work for your life too.
The Long Story:
I have been (unknowingly) practicing Kaizen since 2003. Things often get overwhelming for me (although I’ll admit that I tend to bite off more than I can chew), and I get distracted very easily. This lack of focus bothered me so much that in 2002 I took several tests to try to figure out what the problem was. The test results showed that I have a “learning disorder” called A.D.D. (Attention Deficit Disorder). It’s not severe, just annoying. I refuse to take any medications for it, so I’ve had to come up with simple solutions that allow me to stay on target and reach my goals with as much efficiency as possible. Although you may not have similar attention challenges, you will still greatly benefit from these posts because they make life easier for anyone.
In my MBA program in 2005, I did a case study on Toyota and found out that they use a Japanese philosophy throughout their entire business structure, and that philosophy is “Kaizen” (for a definition of Kaizen, please click on “Kaizen Defined” above). At that point I began to see the similarities between what my personal philosophy was, and this Kaizen thing. Then, as life would have it, I came across a book entitled One Small Step Can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way by Robert Maurer, and that’s when it all came together for me. This blog is a journey through Kaizen Ways of doing things, and how they can be of benefit and value to you.
I really hope this won’t be a one-way conversation; please post comments when you feel the urge to.
